Monomania makes one opponent discard their entire hand — a full grip gone at instant speed on your end step for five mana. It's a devastating tempo play in the right shell, but it's a one-for-one against a single player at a four-person table, which keeps it out of most 99s.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| pioneer | not legal |

Commander is where Monomania sees its only real play, and even there it's conditional. Targeting the player with the most cards — often whoever just drew off a big engine — can swing a game, but five mana to disrupt one opponent while two others untouched makes it a situational inclusion rather than a staple. Legacy and Vintage have it legal but would never run it: Thoughtseize and Force of Will exist. Modern is the same story — the format has cleaner, cheaper hand disruption at every turn. Monomania is a Commander card, full stop, and even there it wants a deck that can reliably identify and punish the one player who matters most.

Price Context
Current price
$0.28 bulk tier
At $0.28, Monomania is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard and postage, not the card. That price is stable because demand is low and supply is plentiful; don't expect movement in either direction.
