Mongrel Pack puts four 1/1 Dog tokens onto the battlefield when it dies — that death trigger is the entire reason to run it. Outside of commanders that specifically reward dying creatures or populate token counts on cue, the four mana for a 4/1 body with no evasion isn't worth the slot, but Sophia, Dogged Detective makes every one of those tokens matter.
