Mirror Match copies every attacking creature your opponent swings with — tokens, not the originals — so you block with exact replicas and they trade off at end of combat. Six mana is steep for a combat trick, but the effect is so lopsided in a token-heavy metagame that it routinely ends combat phases before they begin.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |

| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Mirror Match lives — multiplayer tables run wide boards constantly, and a single resolved Mirror Match can neutralize the scariest alpha strike at the table while leaving you unscathed. Legacy and Vintage have the card legal but will never touch it; those formats end games too fast for a six-mana instant with no proactive pressure. Oathbreaker is the one other 60-card-adjacent format where it sees occasional play, mostly in blue control shells that need a panic button against go-wide decks.

$0.37 bulk tier
At $0.37, Mirror Match sits firmly in bulk territory — easy to pick up in any trade binder or as a throw-in. Bulk instants with niche applications rarely spike unless a commander or combo brings them into focus, so treat it as a cheap role-player rather than a spec target.
