Miraculous Recovery returns any creature from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter, at instant speed, for five mana. That's a lot of mana for a one-shot effect, and in most Commander decks that slot belongs to a reusable recursion engine instead.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Miraculous Recovery is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but it's essentially a Commander card — the other formats have better options at lower cost and rarely want a five-mana sorcery-effect dressed as an instant. In Commander, the instant speed is the entire pitch: surprising opponents by pulling back a key creature at end of turn before your next untap is genuinely disruptive. The problem is that five mana is steep for a one-time effect when Reanimator staples like Reanimate and Animate Dead exist, and even budget recursion spells do more for less. It finds a home in decks that value the instant timing above all else and can't access black.

At $0.14, Miraculous Recovery is pure bulk — no financial consideration needed. That price reflects its narrow playability accurately, so don't expect it to move.
