Mindslicer card art
Mindslicer empties every hand at the table the moment it dies — a five-mana creature that turns any sacrifice outlet into a symmetric discard-all effect. The catch is "symmetric," and if you can't profit from that more than your opponents can, you're paying five mana to hurt yourself alongside them; pair it with Tergrid, God of Fright and the symmetry evaporates entirely.

Best Commanders

Commanders with the highest synergy

01

Tergrid, God of Fright

43.8% of decks · synergy 0.39

Tergrid, God of Fright converts the mass discard from Mindslicer into a one-sided board development — every permanent opponents pitch lands under your control instead of the graveyard, turning a symmetric effect into an asymmetric blowout.

02
Tinybones, Bauble Burglar

Tinybones, Bauble Burglar

39.8% of decks · synergy 0.35

Tinybones, Bauble Burglar scores a card and drains life every time an opponent discards, so Mindslicer's death trigger isn't just disruption — it's a multi-opponent card-draw and damage burst stapled to a single creature dying.

03
Tinybones, Trinket Thief

Tinybones, Trinket Thief

31.3% of decks · synergy 0.27

Tinybones, Trinket Thief draws a card at end of turn whenever any opponent discarded that turn, meaning Mindslicer's trigger reliably converts into immediate card advantage regardless of how many opponents are affected.

04

Aclazotz, Deepest Betrayal

29.1% of decks · synergy 0.25

Aclazotz, Deepest Betrayal rewards emptying opponents' hands, and Mindslicer is one of the most efficient ways to accomplish that in one shot — dropping everyone to zero cards in hand pushes Aclazotz's triggered abilities into overdrive.

05
Rakdos, the Muscle

Rakdos, the Muscle

24.3% of decks · synergy 0.24

Rakdos, the Muscle wants opponents hellbent to unlock its strongest effects, and Mindslicer is a reliable reset button that strips every hand at once, setting the table for Rakdos to attack into defenseless opponents.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

FormatVerdict
commander
legacy
modern
pioneer

vintage
pauper
oathbreaker

Commander is where Mindslicer belongs — the multiplayer context multiplies the discard trigger across three opponents simultaneously, and black sacrifice synergies like Tergrid, God of Fright are endemic to the format. In Legacy and Vintage, Mindslicer is legal but essentially unplayed; five mana for a fragile creature that requires a sacrifice outlet to actually fire is too slow and too conditional against fast, interactive decks where opponents will simply remove it before you can profit. Modern legality doesn't change that calculus meaningfully — the card sees no competitive play there either. Oathbreaker is the one other format where Mindslicer can find a home, specifically in discard-payoff shells that mirror the Commander synergies. Outside of 60-card casual, treat this as a Commander card first and only.

$1.34 cheap tier

At $1.34, Mindslicer sits in the budget-staple tier — cheap enough to slot into any black discard or sacrifice build without a second thought. The price is stable; it's not a casual bulk rare but it's not climbing either, and it prints often enough that supply keeps the ceiling low.
