Mind Rake card art
Mind Rake hits every opponent for two discards at instant speed — the overload cost is the whole point, turning a single-target effect into a table-wide hand shredder. At three mana base or six to overload, it fits cleanly in any black discard shell, and Tinybones, Trinket Thief turns each of those discards into a drain trigger before the turn even ends.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Tinybones, Trinket Thief

Tinybones, Trinket Thief

49.6% of decks · synergy 0.46

Mind Rake is a staple here because Tinybones, Trinket Thief drains each opponent who discards at end of turn — overloading it on the table's end step converts six mana into three separate drain triggers plus hand disruption in one shot.

02
Tinybones, Bauble Burglar

Tinybones, Bauble Burglar

36.9% of decks · synergy 0.34

Mind Rake slots into Tinybones, Bauble Burglar as reliable discard fuel; the commander wants opponents emptying their hands to maximize its triggered value, and a three-mana instant that can scale up to hit the whole table does that efficiently.

03

Aclazotz, Deepest Betrayal

32.8% of decks · synergy 0.30

Aclazotz, Deepest Betrayal rewards stripping opponents' hands to generate Bat tokens, and Mind Rake's overload mode is one of the cleanest ways to trigger that ability across multiple players at once.

05

Tergrid, God of Fright

23.0% of decks · synergy 0.20

Every card an opponent discards to Mind Rake is a permanent Tergrid, God of Fright can steal if they pitch a nonland, so the overload mode at a full table can swing board state dramatically in one activation.

In Commander, Mind Rake earns its slot in any black discard strategy — the base mode is a clean two-for-one against one player, and the overload scales it into one of the most efficient mass-discard spells at its mana cost. In Pauper it's a legitimate role-player in black control, where hand disruption at common rarity is always welcome and the overload is genuinely threatening in a two-player game. Legacy and Vintage have access to far more powerful discard, so Mind Rake doesn't compete there. Modern is legal but the card sees no meaningful play in a format where Thoughtseize and Inquisition of Kozilek set the bar for efficient hand disruption.
