Might Beyond Reason puts a massive +1/+1 counter burst on a creature at instant speed — the kind of effect that ends combat math debates permanently and closes games out of nowhere. At one mana for the setup and two to activate, the cost is low enough that the ceiling on its impact is basically the size of your biggest threat.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Might Beyond Reason earns its slot: the format's slower clock and combat-centric tables mean a single activation on a 10-power creature can be a one-shot kill, and the instant speed makes it a blowout waiting to happen on an opponent's attack step. In Pauper it competes in a much tighter metagame where combat tricks need to pull double duty, but pump-heavy aggro and aura builds can still abuse it. Modern and Pioneer have better options at the same cost, and Might Beyond Reason won't see meaningful play in either. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters — the power bar is simply too high.

Price Context
Current price
$0.05 bulk tier
At $0.05, Might Beyond Reason is pure bulk — you're paying for cardboard and shipping, not the card. Bulk commons at this price tier don't appreciate unless a deck breaks them into a format staple, and nothing on the horizon suggests that's coming.
