Midvast Protector enters the battlefield and immediately gives target Wizard hexproof until end of turn — cheap, instant-speed protection that doubles as a flash blocker. At three mana for a 2/3, the rate is unexciting, but in a Wizard tribal shell the on-cast trigger does real work.

In Commander, Midvast Protector earns a slot specifically in Wizard tribal decks that need cheap, repeatable protection — Azami, Lady of Scrolls and Adeliz, the Cinder Wind lists are the natural homes. Outside that context, a three-mana 2/3 with a conditional hexproof trigger doesn't clear the bar. In Pauper, where common-only Wizard synergy decks exist, Midvast Protector is a reasonable roleplayer — the body blocks and the protection keeps key pieces alive through removal. Legacy and Vintage have far more efficient options, so it doesn't see play there.

Price Context
Current price
$0.04 bulk tier
At $0.04, Midvast Protector is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not card value. It'll hold that floor indefinitely; nothing about its play pattern pushes it toward a reprint premium or a spike.
