Midnight Ritual converts dead creatures into a wave of 2/2 Zombie tokens — one per creature exiled — at sorcery speed for three mana plus X, where X is the creature count. The rate is weak: you're paying full price for bodies that were already yours, with no enters-the-battlefield triggers and no evasion baked in.

Midnight Ritual is a Commander card almost exclusively — the format's graveyard-stuffing engines and sacrifice loops give it the raw material it needs to produce a meaningful token count. In Legacy and Vintage it's unplayable; those formats have faster, more permanent ways to generate Zombies or exploit graveyards. Commander is the only home where a dedicated aristocrats or Zombie tribal shell can realistically exile five-plus creatures in one shot and make the X cost feel worthwhile, though even there Midnight Ritual competes with strictly better mass-reanimate effects.
