Metastatic Evangel floods the board by spreading Phyrexian corruption counters to every creature you control whenever a creature with one enters — the effect snowballs fast and turns token generators into Phyrexian army factories. The cost is a two-mana 1/1 body that does nothing until you already have an infected creature, so it needs the right shell; Evolution Witness chains and Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos token production are exactly that shell.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos
Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos is the canonical home — his Phyrexian cat and incubator tokens constantly trigger Metastatic Evangel, turning every new creature into a corruption vector without any additional work.

Minthara, Merciless Soul
Minthara, Merciless Soul rewards amassing Phyrexian creatures with stat bonuses, and Metastatic Evangel ensures every creature entering under her command immediately joins the infected ranks.
Elesh Norn
Elesh Norn's mass token generation gives Metastatic Evangel a perpetual trigger loop, converting a wide board of Phyrexian Mites into a unified army that grows with each wave.

Zabaz, the Glimmerwasp
Zabaz, the Glimmerwasp cares deeply about proliferating +1/+1 counters, and Metastatic Evangel's counter-spreading effect plugs directly into that proliferate engine as a free trigger on every creature entry.

Kros, Defense Contractor
Kros, Defense Contractor distributes counters as a political tool, and Metastatic Evangel extends that reach by ensuring any creature entering with a corruption counter propagates it across the board, accelerating Kros's counter-laden game plan.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|

| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Metastatic Evangel is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but its home is almost exclusively Commander — the card is built around board-wide synergies with Phyrexian creature types and corruption counters that simply don't have the critical mass to matter in 1v1 constructed. In Legacy and Vintage it's too slow and too parasitic to see play, requiring specific infrastructure that faster formats won't give you time to assemble. Commander is where Metastatic Evangel is genuinely powerful: a 100-card singleton environment means you build the deck around the engine, and multiplayer life totals give you the turns to execute it.

Current price
$0.38 bulk tier
At $0.38, Metastatic Evangel is bulk — easy to pick up as a four-of or a stack for multiple decks without a second thought. Inclusion in over 8,500 Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos lists suggests steady demand, but new-set staples at bulk price rarely spike hard, so don't expect significant movement.
