Metallic Mastery gives you a free Threaten stapled to a loot — steal an artifact, untap it, use it, then cash in a card you don't need for two new ones. Three mana for that package is efficient enough that any artifact-heavy Commander deck should at least run the math on it.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Metallic Mastery earns its slot in any artifact-centric red or Izzet deck — stealing a mana rock or combo piece at instant speed, untapping it for mana or an activated ability, then replacing itself is genuinely useful tempo. In Legacy and Vintage, it's technically legal but faces stiff competition from faster, more powerful artifact interaction, so it won't see serious play there. Modern is the same story: the card is fine but the format moves too fast for a three-mana Threaten effect to matter outside of very specific brews. Commander remains the one format where Metallic Mastery is actually worth sleeving up.

Price Context
Current price
$0.07 bulk tier
At $0.07, Metallic Mastery is pure bulk — buy a playset without thinking about it. Bulk rares at this price rarely spike unless they land in a competitive combo, and nothing about this card's profile suggests that's coming.
