Messenger Hawk card art
Messenger Hawk replaces itself when it deals combat damage to a player — a fine rate on a 2/2 flyer for three mana, but nothing that clears the bar for competitive play. It's a draft common doing draft-common things; there are stronger options at every table.

In Commander, Messenger Hawk competes against a deep pool of evasive creatures that draw cards without needing to connect — Welcoming Vampire, Cloudblazer, and similar effects don't require opponents' cooperation. Messenger Hawk can slot into aggressive Voltron or token-go-wide lists that expect to push through damage repeatedly, but it's rarely the best tool for that job. In Pauper, a 2/2 flyer for three that draws on damage is genuinely playable in white tempo shells where card advantage is scarce. Across other formats — Standard, Pioneer, Modern — it's too slow and too conditional to see serious play.

Price Context

Current price

$0.10 bulk tier

At $0.10, Messenger Hawk is deep bulk — the kind of card you pull from a common box rather than buy deliberately. That price is stable by definition; there's no meaningful demand to push it higher.
