Mesa Unicorn card art
Mesa Unicorn is a 2/2 lifelinker for two mana — functional, unexciting, and completely outclassed in any context that isn't specifically hunting Unicorn tribal synergies. Thurid, Mare of Destiny is the one commander that makes this card worth registering, where the creature type does real work.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Thurid, Mare of Destiny

Thurid, Mare of Destiny

72.0% of decks · synergy 0.71

Thurid, Mare of Destiny cares directly about Unicorns, and Mesa Unicorn is one of the cheaper bodies that fills that tribal slot while contributing a lifelink trigger on every attack.

02
Emiel the Blessed

Emiel the Blessed

22.1% of decks · synergy 0.21

Emiel the Blessed can blink Mesa Unicorn to stack lifelink triggers, and the combination feeds life-total-matters payoffs that often share space in those lists.

Mesa Unicorn is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker — but legal and playable are different things. In Pauper, a 2/2 lifelink for two is barely passable at common, and white has strictly better options like Lone Missionary and Healer's Hawk. In Modern and Pioneer the card doesn't clear the bar for inclusion in any established archetype. Commander is where Mesa Unicorn sees virtually all of its real play, and even there the audience is narrow: Unicorn tribal lists built around Thurid, Mare of Destiny are essentially the only shell where the creature type matters enough to justify the slot.

Price Context

Current price

$0.17 bulk tier

At $0.17, Mesa Unicorn sits firmly in bulk territory — the kind of card you pull from a draft chaff pile rather than order intentionally. Demand is too narrow to expect any price movement; pick it up if you're building the Thurid list, otherwise it has no financial relevance.
