Merrow Wavebreakers lands as a 3/3 flier that taps to give any creature islandwalk until end of turn — relevant evasion on demand, but stapled to a four-mana body that does nothing the turn it enters. Outside of dedicated Merfolk or islandwalk-matters builds, Myr Welder does more interesting things with activated abilities at a lower ceiling.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Merrow Wavebreakers sees essentially no play outside Commander, and even there it's a fringe inclusion limited to Merfolk tribal or islandwalk-stacking lists. In Pauper it's legal but unplayed — four mana for a 3/3 with a conditional evasion tap ability doesn't compete in that format's efficiency-driven environment. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters; the card has no power-level footprint in either. Commander is the only realistic home, and even there Merrow Wavebreakers needs a specific build — one that either cares about Merfolk creature types or is actively trying to push multiple attackers through via islandwalk — to justify the slot.

Current price
$0.11 bulk tier
At $0.11, Merrow Wavebreakers is deep bulk — the kind of card that moves in collections, not in singles orders. That price is stable by default; there's no demand pressure that would push it up, and no reprint risk that would push it down.
