Melt Terrain destroys a land and replaces it with two basic Mountains — a clean tempo hit that doubles as color-hate against greedy manabases. Four mana for land destruction is the floor for playability, and this clears it only in dedicated land-hate or Landfall shells where the Mountains entering actually matter.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |

| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Melt Terrain earns a slot almost exclusively in land-destruction strategies or decks that care about basic Mountains entering — think Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle triggers or Landfall payoffs in red. In Pauper, land destruction is a recognized archetype and Melt Terrain competes with Demolish and Stone Rain; the Mountain replacement is minor upside that rarely changes the outcome. Legacy and Vintage have no interest — four mana is a lifetime in those formats, and targeted land hate there runs Stone Rain effects or fast mana denial, not this. Oathbreaker tracks Commander closely enough that the same narrow-archetype verdict applies.

Price Context
Current price
$0.10 bulk tier
At $0.10, Melt Terrain is deep bulk — you're picking this out of a commons box, not tracking it down. Bulk commons don't appreciate unless a mechanic breaks into a competitive format, and land destruction at four mana has no such trajectory.
