Meddle changes a spell's target on the stack for two mana — a narrow counterspell effect that redirects removal from your creature to one that deserves it, or turns a pump spell into a liability for the original caster. The cost is that it does nothing without a valid alternate target on the board, making it a dead card in too many game states to justify a slot.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

In Commander, Meddle occupies the weakest tier of interaction — it requires an existing legal target, competes with actual counterspells, and can't stop noncreature, nontargeted threats at all. Legacy has the tools to abuse redirection effects in corner-case combo protection, but Meddle's sorcery-speed floor and strict preconditions keep it out of serious lists there too. Vintage doesn't want it either. Meddle is a curiosity rather than a staple in every format where it's legal.

Price Context
Current price
$0.21 bulk tier
At $0.21, Meddle is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not power. That price reflects the card's narrow application accurately and is unlikely to move unless a niche combo or Commander build specifically breaks redirection effects wide open, which hasn't happened in decades of availability.
