Master Warcraft ends a combat step before it starts — you choose which creatures attack and which block, turning any board into a one-sided wipe or a lethal swing your opponents can't answer at instant speed. Four mana for that level of table manipulation is the cost, and it's worth it in any deck that can close games through combat.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

General Ferrous Rokiric
General Ferrous Rokiric builds a wide board of Golems through multicolored spells, and Master Warcraft converts that token army into a guaranteed alpha strike — opponents can't chump-block their way out when you assign every attacker and every blocker.

Wyleth, Soul of Steel
Wyleth, Soul of Steel needs to connect with the player of your choice to keep drawing cards, and Master Warcraft guarantees that connection by forcing the attack through regardless of how the blockers line up.

Marisi, Breaker of the Coil
Marisi, Breaker of the Coil locks opponents out of casting spells on their own turns only when every opponent is being attacked — Master Warcraft makes sure every opponent gets a creature swung at them in the same turn, no gaps.

Mathas, Fiend Seeker
Mathas, Fiend Seeker thrives when opponents are attacking each other, and Master Warcraft lets you engineer exactly those combats — forcing a creature you've marked with a bounty straight into an unfavorable attack to cash it out.

Aurelia, the Law Above
Aurelia, the Law Above rewards aggressive play and punishes players who sit back, and Master Warcraft removes the option to sit back entirely by dictating who swings and who eats the damage.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Master Warcraft earns its slot — the combination of multiple opponents, wide combat-focused boards, and the absence of counterspell density in most pods makes forced-combat effects uniquely punishing at the multiplayer table. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but functionally irrelevant; those formats end games through entirely different axes and four mana at sorcery speed is a liability. Oathbreaker mirrors the Commander dynamic on a smaller scale, and decks built around combat commanders can find similar value there. Outside of multiplayer formats, Master Warcraft is a curiosity.

Price Context
Current price
$0.74 bulk tier
At $0.74, Master Warcraft is bulk — a four-mana sorcery with no reprint demand keeping it down, just a narrow enough appeal that the market hasn't bothered pricing it up. It's a firm pickup at this price for any combat-focused Commander deck; there's no cheaper way to own a full table combat step.
