Master Symmetrist turns every creature you control with power equal to its toughness into a combat threat that can't be chump-blocked — a meaningful board-wide effect that punishes opponents for holding back small utility creatures. The cost is real: you need a critical mass of symmetrical-stat creatures for this to matter, which constrains deckbuilding significantly.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is the only format where Master Symmetrist is worth serious consideration, and even there it demands a dedicated shell — think Arcades, the Strategist walls decks or any commander that naturally assembles creatures where power equals toughness (defenders, certain Loxodons, +1/+1 counter decks that smooth stats). In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's legal but has no competitive home; those formats move too fast for a four-mana do-nothing-alone creature. Oathbreaker shares Commander's casual context, where the symmetrical-stats theme can be a real build-around, but the card sees essentially zero play there in practice.

Price Context
Current price
$0.09 bulk tier
At $0.09, Master Symmetrist is deep bulk — you're paying almost nothing for a card with a narrow, build-around role. That price is stable in the sense that it's a floor; there's no obvious catalyst to push it higher unless a new commander prints specifically incentivizing symmetrical-stat creatures.
