Mask of the Mimic lets you sacrifice one creature to tutor any other creature with the same name directly onto the battlefield — instant speed, no mana cost beyond the initial one blue. The setup cost is real, but the payoff is a free tutor that dodges mana restrictions entirely, and in a format full of identical token copies, that cost is trivial.

Mask of the Mimic is a Commander card — full stop. The singleton rule makes same-name targets scarce in most builds, but token-generating commanders sidestep that entirely, and the payoff of a free instant-speed creature tutor is absurd in a 100-card format where finding the right piece is half the game. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but irrelevant; non-rotating eternal formats reward speed and consistency, and a setup-dependent tutor that requires board state doesn't compete. Oathbreaker shares enough of Commander's multiplayer, singleton DNA that the same token-strategy logic applies, though the smaller deck size slightly narrows the ceiling.
