Marsh Casualties wipes out every 1-toughness creature on the board — tokens, mana dorks, utility creatures — for two mana, or every 2-toughness creature if you pay five. That's a hard rate to beat at sorcery speed, and in token-heavy metas it's a one-sided wrath.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Marsh Casualties earns its slot anytime the table runs elves, spirits, or go-wide token strategies — the kicker mode doubling the toughness threshold for three extra mana makes it scalable in a way most cheap sweepers aren't. Legacy and Vintage have access to faster, more flexible removal, so Marsh Casualties doesn't crack those formats competitively. Modern is legal but too slow against the format's threats; Plague Engineer does the same job on a body. Commander is where this card actually lives.

Price Context
Current price
$0.15 bulk tier
At $0.15, Marsh Casualties is deep bulk — pick it up without thinking about it. Bulk rares and uncommons at this price point don't spike unless a format shifts hard to favor them, so treat it as a free inclusion, not a spec.
