Mardu Charm gives you three genuinely distinct options — instant-speed removal, two 1/1 Warriors, or a hand-peek with discard — for three mana at instant speed. The flexibility is real, but none of the three modes is efficient enough to justify a slot unless you're actively building around the Warrior tokens or need a modal answer in a pinch.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Mardu Charm is a fringe inclusion: the removal mode handles one creature or planeswalker at sorcery speed (you choose during the declare attackers step), the token mode produces two bodies that rarely matter at a 100-card table, and hand disruption on a single opponent is low-impact in a four-player game. Competitive formats don't want it either — Modern and Pioneer have tighter, cheaper options on every mode, and Legacy laughs at three-mana sorcery-speed removal regardless of the upside. Oathbreaker is the friendliest home, where the smaller table makes the discard mode sting more and the Warrior tokens can slot into an aggressive gameplan.
