Mana Leech taxes an opponent's untap step by forcing them to pay one mana or leave a permanent tapped — a soft lock that compounds quickly against mana-hungry decks. The cost is real: it only hits one player, so in a four-player pod it's roughly one-quarter as powerful as it looks on paper.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Mana Leech has any business existing — the politics of choosing which opponent to tax, and the multiplayer density of mana-hungry permanents, give it enough friction to occasionally matter. In Legacy and Vintage it's too slow and too narrow; neither format has room for a two-mana enchantment that doesn't immediately change the board state. Oathbreaker mirrors Commander's multiplayer math in a smaller pod, which actually makes Mana Leech marginally more targeted but also more visible as a threat worth removing.

Price Context
Current price
$0.19 bulk tier
At $0.19, Mana Leech is deep bulk — a card you pull from a box, not one you buy intentionally. That price reflects exactly what the market thinks of it: a narrow, slow enchantment with no competitive demand propping it up.
