Magus of the Library turns a full grip into free card draw — tap it while you're holding seven or more cards and you're drawing for nothing every turn. The catch is staying above seven, which makes it a payoff for hand-size engines rather than a standalone draw engine, and without something like Mind Over Matter to untap it repeatedly, the ceiling drops fast.

In Commander, Magus of the Library rewards decks that naturally keep large hands — Reliquary Tower effects, high-draw engines, and hand-size matters commanders make it genuinely strong. Legacy and Vintage have better one-mana draw options and don't want a creature that needs setup turns to produce value, so Magus of the Library doesn't see play there. Modern is legal but the same problem applies — slower setup on a fragile body doesn't compete. It's a Commander card through and through.

Current price
$1.17 cheap tier
At $1.17, Magus of the Library sits firmly in throw-it-in territory — the price reflects its narrow condition rather than any lack of power in the right shell. It's unlikely to spike without a reprint ban on something that inflates hand-size synergy demand, so buy it when you need it and don't overthink it.
