At the beginning of your end step, return this creature to its owner's hand unless you remove two oil counters from it.

Magmatic Sprinter enters with haste and swings immediately, but the self-bounce clause — returning it to hand at end of combat — means you're trading repeated enters-the-battlefield triggers for a permanent board presence. Run it where the ETB matters more than the body staying around.

Magmatic Sprinter is a Commander card first and almost exclusively. The self-bounce loop is irrelevant in formats where a recursive ETB engine doesn't exist, and in Modern or Pioneer a 3/2 haste for three mana that leaves the board after attacking doesn't compete with what aggressive red decks are already doing. In Commander, pair it with a bounce-reward commander — anything that cares about creatures entering the battlefield repeatedly will turn this into a value engine every combat step. Legacy and Vintage are legal but have no realistic home here.

Price Context
Current price
$0.14 bulk tier
At $0.14, Magmatic Sprinter is deep bulk — pick it up without a second thought if the synergy fits. Bulk rares with narrow ETB-loop applications rarely climb without a breakout combo discovery, so treat it as a cheap piece to acquire now and don't expect the price to move.
