Magma Pummeler
Creature — Elemental
This creature enters with X +1/+1 counters on it.
If damage would be dealt to this creature while it has a +1/+1 counter on it, prevent that damage and remove that many +1/+1 counters from it. When one or more counters are removed from this creature this way, it deals that much damage to any target.

Magma Pummeler enters with a pile of +1/+1 counters scaled to the mana you spend and can redistribute those counters as direct damage — the payoff is immediate and board-relevant. The cost is that it demands a dedicated X-spell shell, and outside of Rosheen, Roaring Prophet, that shell rarely comes together cleanly enough to justify the slot.

Rosheen, Roaring Prophet
Rosheen, Roaring Prophet's ability to pour extra mana into X costs makes Magma Pummeler an on-curve threat that arrives large and doubles as a removal spell, often the turn it lands.

Magma Pummeler is a Commander card — full stop. The X-counter payoff requires the kind of mana acceleration and redundancy that only a 100-card singleton format with a dedicated commander can reliably assemble. In Modern and Pioneer it's too slow and too conditional against linear decks that don't care about a creature that needs setup to convert its counters into damage. Legacy and Vintage have no interest in a five-mana floor creature when those formats kill on turn one or two. Commander is the one place where the pieces actually line up: big mana, an X-spell commander, and enough time for Magma Pummeler to do its work.

$0.06 bulk tier
At $0.06, Magma Pummeler is deep bulk — buy a playset and barely notice it on your receipt. Bulk rares with narrow homes don't appreciate, so treat it as a cheap pickup for the specific deck that wants it and nothing more.
