Luminous Angel puts a 1/1 flying token into play at the start of every upkeep — yours and each opponent's — which means three to four tokens per table rotation in a four-player game. Seven mana is a real cost, but commanders like Esix, Fractal Bloom that copy or redirect token triggers can turn that steady drip into a flood.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Luminous Angel does its best work — four players means three extra upkeep triggers per round, and the token flood compounds quickly with anthem effects or sacrifice engines. In Legacy and Vintage the card is legal but entirely unplayable; seven mana for a do-nothing-immediately creature doesn't compete when the format ends on turn one or two. Oathbreaker is the one non-Commander 60-card variant where Luminous Angel could theoretically function, but the faster pace of that format makes it fringe at best.

Current price
$0.91 bulk tier
At $0.91, Luminous Angel sits firmly in bulk rare territory, which reflects its narrow competitive appeal and numerous reprints. The price is stable rather than rising — pick it up for casual Angel or token builds without concern, but don't expect it to appreciate.
