In Commander, Luminesce is a meta-call inclusion — if your table is heavy on red and black commanders, it can blank an entire combat or stop a Torment of Hells fire from closing out the game, but it does nothing against green stompy or blue control. In Legacy and Vintage, it lives in sideboards as a cheap hedge against Burn or Reanimator shells running black interaction, though the one-shot nature limits its appeal compared to broader protection.
