Longtusk Cub is a two-mana threat that snowballs fast in any deck generating Energy — each hit grows it permanently, and it can cash Energy on demand to keep the counters coming. The payoff is real, but it's entirely contingent on having an Energy engine around it; without one, it's a 2/2 for two that does nothing.

In Commander, Longtusk Cub only pulls its weight in dedicated Energy decks — the pool is shared across the table, so commanders like Atraxa, Praetors' Voice or Yisan, the Wanderer Bard variants that generate surplus Energy can actually fuel it, but most green goodstuff lists won't give it the resources to matter. Pioneer is its best competitive home, where Temur and Sultai Energy shells generated enough Energy through Attune with Aether and Aether Hub to turn Longtusk Cub into a must-answer threat by turn three. Modern and Legacy are too fast and too hostile to ground-based creatures without evasion — Longtusk Cub simply gets blocked or removed before it takes over.

Price Context
Current price
$0.22 bulk tier
At $0.22, Longtusk Cub is deep bulk — easy to pick up as a playset without thinking twice. It's unlikely to appreciate unless a new Energy commander sparks a Commander spike, so treat it as a cheap role-player rather than a spec.
