Long River Lurker card art
Long River Lurker enters as a sizeable body and immediately mills you for cards equal to its power — free self-mill stapled to a creature is the whole pitch. Clement, the Worrywort runs it as a reliable graveyard-filler, and even Satya, Aetherflux Genius finds use copying it to stack the trigger.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Clement, the Worrywort

Clement, the Worrywort

89.9% of decks · synergy 0.86

Clement, the Worrywort wants the graveyard stocked fast, and Long River Lurker delivers a burst of self-mill the moment it lands — 90% of Clement decks run it for exactly that reason.

02
Grolnok, the Omnivore

Grolnok, the Omnivore

72.2% of decks · synergy 0.68

Grolnok, the Omnivore turns every milled frog into a free cast, so Long River Lurker's enter-the-battlefield mill trigger is essentially a draw-three that also leaves a body behind.

03
Glarb, Calamity's Augur

Glarb, Calamity's Augur

18.3% of decks · synergy 0.17

Long River Lurker's mill effect feeds Glarb, Calamity's Augur's graveyard-matters plan while adding a relevant threat to the board — it slots in as quiet, consistent setup at 18% inclusion.

Format Analysis

Long River Lurker is legal across every major format but lives almost entirely in Commander, where self-mill synergies are deepest and a single ETB trigger has time to matter. In Modern and Pioneer it's too slow and underpowered against the format's density — a 4-plus-mana creature that mills you isn't competing there. Standard and Legacy offer more creative room, but no dedicated self-mill archetype exists in either format right now that would want this over more efficient pieces. Commander is where Long River Lurker earns its slot.

Price Context

Current price

$0.29 bulk tier

At $0.29, Long River Lurker is bulk — easy to pick up as a four-of if you need copies. Bulk creatures with narrow graveyard-synergy niches rarely climb unless a new commander breaks them wide open, so don't expect this to move.
