Loan Shark card art
Loan Shark puts a 1/1 fish token on your opponents' side of the board and draws you a card each turn — at the cost of giving an opponent card advantage they have to pay life to keep. In Brallin, Skyshark Rider // Shabraz, the Skyshark builds, that triggered draw is the whole point, and the "cost" is a political lever you control.

Brallin, Skyshark Rider // Shabraz, the Skyshark turns every card drawn by any player into a damage and counter trigger, so the forced draw Loan Shark hands out each upkeep feeds the engine whether opponents pay the life or not.

Loan Shark is legal everywhere but does real work almost exclusively in Commander, where the political dimension of handing out fish tokens to multiple opponents is actually meaningful and wheel-style draw payoffs are abundant. In 1v1 formats like Legacy or Modern, giving your opponent a free card draw is a liability with almost no upside — the token is negligible and the forced symmetry hurts you. Pauper is the one fringe exception: cheap, recursive draw triggers exist there, but Loan Shark still competes poorly against more efficient common threats. Play it in Commander, ignore it everywhere else.

Price Context

Current price

$0.19 bulk tier

At $0.19, Loan Shark is deep bulk — the kind of card you pull from a common box rather than buy. Don't expect that to change; niche political cards at common rarity have no meaningful price floor to fall through and no spike catalyst on the horizon.
