Llanowar Empath
Creature — Elf Shaman
When this creature enters, scry 2, then reveal the top card of your library. If it's a creature card, put it into your hand. (To scry 2, look at the top two cards of your library, then put any number of them on the bottom and the rest on top in any order.)

Llanowar Empath enters the battlefield, scrys 2, then draws a card — three words of on-board value stapled to a 2/2 body for four mana. The cost is tempo: four mana for a vanilla creature with upside is Commander-playable only when you're specifically rewarding creatures entering the battlefield.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Llanowar Empath is a Commander card through and through — the format's slower pace and creature-centric synergy engines are exactly where a scry-2-draw-1 ETB earns its slot. In Pauper it's legal but outclassed; common-legal card draw at four mana faces stiff competition from spells that don't require a body to survive. Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Pioneer all ignore it entirely — four mana for a 2/2 with conditional draw doesn't register in formats where that mana buys actual game-winners. Stick to Commander, and specifically to decks that flicker, reanimate, or otherwise abuse ETB triggers.

Price Context
Current price
$0.14 bulk tier
At $0.14, Llanowar Empath is deep bulk — the kind of card you pull from a common box without thinking twice. It won't appreciate, but it doesn't need to; the value proposition is pure utility at essentially zero cost to acquire.
