Llanowar Elite enters as a 1/1 for one mana and can grow into a serious threat if you dump additional mana into its kicker — but that ask is steep for what remains a vanilla creature with no evasion or protection. It's a build-around on paper that rarely justifies the slot in practice.

In Commander, Llanowar Elite competes in a format full of mana dorks that do more than exist — it neither ramps you nor replaces itself, so it needs the kicker to matter, and sinking that much mana into a ground-pounder on turn one is rarely correct. Legacy and Vintage have access to it but have no reason to run it over creatures with actual utility.
