Liege of the Hollows card art
Liege of the Hollows hands every opponent a free Squirrel token whenever it dies — and in a multiplayer pod, that's three opponents each getting one, flooding the board with chump blockers that make combat miserable for you. Run it only in decks that convert that token swarm into a resource, not as incidental green beef.

Liege of the Hollows is a Commander card through and through — the death trigger scales with the number of opponents, and the political wrinkle of gifting tokens is a multiplayer texture that simply doesn't exist in one-on-one formats. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but competes against formats that punish a 2/2 for three mana doing nothing the turn it arrives, so it sees no meaningful play there. Commander is the only context where the design fully fires, specifically in token-doubling or sacrifice-matters shells that weaponize what opponents receive.

Price Context

Current price

$3.95 cheap tier

At $3.95, Liege of the Hollows sits in the budget-playable tier — low enough to include on a whim, high enough that it warrants a real role in the deck rather than a slot-filler. It's a niche card with a narrow home, so the price is unlikely to spike without a reprint or a new Squirrel commander pushing demand.
