In Commander, Lens Flare earns its slot in go-wide token strategies where convoke regularly drops the real cost to zero — attacking into or tapping down after blockers makes the tap condition trivial to meet. In Pauper, it competes with cheaper common removal and rarely makes the cut outside dedicated convoke shells. Legacy and Vintage have access to so much efficient spot removal that Lens Flare never sees play there. It's a Commander-or-bust card, and even there it's a role-player, not a staple.
