Leeches strips a player of all poison counters for two mana — an instant-speed white answer to infect and proliferate strategies that would otherwise be difficult to interact with. It's a narrow sideboard effect, but in any meta where poison counters are relevant, it's one of the cleanest answers available.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Leeches is a meta call: irrelevant at most tables and backbreaking at others, specifically against Atraxa, Praetors' Voice and dedicated poison-counter builds where even a single opponent can threaten lethal through proliferate. Legacy and Vintage have enough degenerate infect and poison strategies that Leeches earns sideboard consideration, though those formats move fast enough that a two-mana sorcery sometimes just isn't quick enough. Outside those three formats, Leeches is not legal — and in formats where it is, the card does exactly one thing, which means it only earns a slot if that one thing comes up regularly in your meta.

Price Context
Current price
$2.70 cheap tier
At $2.70, Leeches sits in the cheap tier but occupies a narrow enough niche that price isn't really the barrier to inclusion — relevance is. It holds its modest value simply because it's the only card that does this specific thing, and collectors or dedicated hate-players will always want a copy.
