Last Caress trades one card and three mana for one of their cards and two life — a clean two-for-one at instant speed. It's a strict upgrade over Divest or Duress in any black shell that wants hand disruption stapled to drain.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Last Caress earns its slot in Pauper, where commons fight for space and a modal discard-plus-drain effect at common rarity pulls real weight in black control shells. In Commander, it's a niche piece — hand disruption is weakest in a four-player game where you can only strip one opponent's hand at a time, and three mana is steep for that effect. Legacy and Vintage have access to better discard across the board, so Last Caress doesn't see serious play in either format. The sweet spot is 1v1 Pauper or Oathbreaker, where targeted hand interaction actually disrupts the one player who matters.

Price Context
Current price
$0.13 bulk tier
At $0.13, Last Caress is deep bulk — the kind of card you pull from a common box without thinking twice. Supply is high enough that the price won't move, and there's no meaningful reprint risk to worry about either way.
