Lash Out
Instant
Lash Out deals 3 damage to target creature. Clash with an opponent. If you win, Lash Out deals 3 damage to that creature's controller. (Each clashing player reveals the top card of their library, then puts that card on their choice of the top or bottom. A player wins if their card had a greater mana value.)

Lash Out deals 3 damage to a creature and replaces itself with a clash — two meaningful effects stapled to a single instant at two mana. It's a clean tempo play, and in formats where clash matters, it pulls ahead of most commons doing the same job.

In Commander, Lash Out is a passable budget removal spell — 3 damage misses a lot of relevant threats at the four-player table, and the clash payoff is unreliable when you're shuffling against three opponents. Pauper is where Lash Out actually earns its slot: tempo-aggressive red decks want instant-speed damage that replaces itself, and the clash can flip into free card advantage against opponents running high curves. In Legacy and Vintage, the card is legal but outclassed by faster, cheaper interaction, so it stays on the bench. Modern has more efficient options at the same rate, making Lash Out a fringe consideration at best.
