Kraul Swarm is a recursive flying beater that keeps coming back from the graveyard by pitching a creature card — relevant board presence that grinds through removal. The cost is real: losing a creature every recurrence means it eats your own resources, so it earns its slot only in decks that want cards in the graveyard anyway.

Kraul Swarm is a Commander card — the recursion loop is slow and the resource cost too steep for any format where faster, cleaner threats exist. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's unplayable; four mana for a 4/3 flier with a clunky self-mill engine doesn't compete at those power levels. In Commander it finds a home in aristocrats and reanimator shells where discarding creatures is a feature, not a drawback, and evasion on a persistent threat actually matters across a long game.

Price Context
Current price
$0.23 bulk tier
At $0.23, Kraul Swarm sits firmly in bulk territory — the kind of card you pick up as a throw-in or out of a bulk bin without a second thought. It's unlikely to move unless a new graveyard-synergy commander pushes it into mainstream EDHREC lists.
