Knight of the Skyward Eye is a 2/2 for two mana that can pump itself to 5/5 with trample by spending four mana and exiling the top card of your library — functional, but slow and resource-hungry for what amounts to a vanilla beater. Outside of very specific Bant exiling or library-manipulation synergies, there are simply better two-drops in every format.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Knight of the Skyward Eye sees essentially no competitive play in Legacy, Modern, or Vintage — the formats where two-mana creatures need to do something immediately, and a conditional pump ability that costs four more mana doesn't qualify. In Pauper it's legal but irrelevant, squeezed out by commons that generate card advantage or apply pressure far more efficiently. Commander is the only context where the mana investment is plausibly affordable, but even there Knight of the Skyward Eye competes against two-drops that draw cards, ramp, or create tokens — and loses that comparison badly unless the deck has a specific reason to exile its own library.

Price Context
Current price
$0.07 bulk tier
At $0.07, Knight of the Skyward Eye is deep bulk — the kind of card you pull from a common box without a second thought. That price will hold simply because demand won't move it; there's no sleeper combo waiting to break a 2/2 with a slow pump ability.
