Klothys's Design hits every creature you control for X damage to each opponent simultaneously, where X is the number of creatures with no abilities — making it a one-card, one-shot kill in the right deck. The six-mana cost is steep, but in Ruxa, Patient Professor builds that routinely go wide with vanilla creatures, this is often the game-ending payoff the archetype is built around.

Ruxa, Patient Professor
Ruxa, Patient Professor turns vanilla creatures into an overperforming army, and Klothys's Design is the finisher that converts that board into lethal damage across all opponents at once — the combination is so tight that the card sees meaningful play in roughly 16% of Ruxa lists.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Klothys's Design is a Commander card through and through — the effect scales with a wide board built over multiple turns, which is exactly what Commander enables and what 60-card formats punish. In Modern or Pioneer it's nearly unplayable: six mana for a conditional damage spell that requires a specific creature type is far too slow against interaction-heavy fields. Legacy and Vintage are theoretically legal but offer no realistic shell. Oathbreaker is the one alternate format where it could surface, specifically in a green-white go-wide build, though the card remains niche even there.

Price Context
Current price
$0.19 bulk tier
At $0.19, Klothys's Design is deep bulk — the kind of card you pick up as a throw-in and never think twice about. Given its narrow application, there's no pressure on the price from either side.
