Kjeldoran Skycaptain
Creature — Human Soldier
Flying; first strike; banding (Any creatures with banding, and up to one without, can attack in a band. Bands are blocked as a group. If any creatures with banding you control are blocking or being blocked by a creature, you divide that creature's combat damage, not its controller, among any of the creatures it's being blocked by or is blocking.)

Kjeldoran Skycaptain lands as a 2/1 flyer that leaves behind a 1/1 Soldier token when it dies — two bodies for five mana is a raw deal in 2024. The cost is too steep for what you get, and it belongs in a very specific token-matters shell to justify a slot.

Kjeldoran Skycaptain is a bulk role-player at best, and Commander is the only format where its token-on-death trigger has room to matter — aristocrats and Soldier tribal builds occasionally want this kind of redundancy at the bottom of the curve. In Pauper, a five-mana 2/1 flyer with a delayed 1/1 is simply outclassed by more efficient commons. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters; the card has no business in powered environments. Commander is the real home, and even there Kjeldoran Skycaptain competes against a deep pool of Soldier token producers that do more for less.
