In the right shell it converts a hand full of high-cost cards into a lethal damage engine; anywhere else, it's too reliant on setup to justify the slot.

Commander is where Kindle the Carnage earns its keep, specifically in discard-matters and reanimator shells that want an outlet and a payoff in the same card — commanders like Chainer, Nightmare Adept or Syr Konrad, the Grim turn every discard trigger into meaningful pressure. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but competes with faster, more consistent disruption and never sees play. Modern has the same problem at a higher power ceiling, and the card simply doesn't have the raw efficiency to show up in competitive lists. Oathbreaker can replicate the Commander dynamic in a smaller game, so the same discard-combo builds that work there are the only other real home.
