Kin-Tree Invocation puts a token into play with power and toughness equal to your highest-toughness creature — for two mana, that can be a 10/10 or larger on turn three in the right shell. It's a strict roleplayer, worthless without a high-toughness creature already in play, but when the condition is met it's one of the most efficient token-makers in green-black.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Kin-Tree Invocation is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but it's a Commander card through and through. In 60-card formats the payoff is too conditional — you need a specific board state, and opponents have more interaction per turn to punish you for telegraphing a giant token at sorcery speed. In Commander, the math flips: high-toughness creatures are common in green-black builds, the token survives sweepers that target power, and copying a Doran, the Siege Tower or a Silklash Spider for two mana is a genuine tempo play. Oathbreaker can replicate the Commander appeal in a faster shell if your planeswalker supports it.

$0.11 bulk tier
At $0.11, Kin-Tree Invocation is pure bulk — no barrier to entry for any budget. Bulk rares with a specific mechanical home rarely spike unless a commander or combo pushes them into demand, so pick up copies freely without any expectation of that changing.
