Killer's Mask

Artifact — Equipment

When this Equipment enters, manifest dread, then attach this Equipment to that creature. (Look at the top two cards of your library. Put one onto the battlefield face down as a 2/2 creature and the other into your graveyard. Turn it face up any time for its mana cost if it's a creature card.)

Killer's Mask card art
Killer's Mask grants the equipped creature menace and a death-trigger that deals 2 damage to any target — relevant effects, but strapped to a 3-mana equip cost that makes it painful to move around the board. At that price, most decks have better options for both menace and death-trigger payoffs.

In Commander, Killer's Mask is a fringe inclusion in dedicated death-trigger or aristocrats builds where the 2-damage ping accumulates meaning over a long game, but the 3-mana equip cost is a real liability — you'll rarely want to move it, which makes it essentially a static aura. In 60-card formats like Modern and Legacy, the equip cost disqualifies it almost immediately; those formats have access to far more efficient menace enablers and damage-on-death effects. Pioneer and Standard could theoretically support it in a budget shell, but competitive lists won't touch it. Killer's Mask is a Commander-only conversation, and even there it's a backup plan rather than a centerpiece.

Price Context

Current price

$0.09 bulk tier

At $0.09, Killer's Mask is deep bulk — you're paying a draft-chaff price for draft-chaff power. There's no demand pressure to move it up, so pick it up freely from a bulk bin if the aristocrats deck calls for it, but don't expect the price to matter either direction.
