Kazuul Warlord card art
Kazuul Warlord puts a +1/+1 counter on every ally you control whenever an ally enters — stack enough creatures and the board scales itself without spending a card. The cost is a five-mana 3/3 that does nothing the turn it arrives, so it lives or dies by how fast your ally count climbs; Iroh, Tea Master decks that churn through the hand can feed it, but slower tables will get it killed before it pays off.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Iroh, Tea Master

Iroh, Tea Master

43.1% of decks · synergy 0.43

Iroh, Tea Master generates a steady stream of creature tokens and draws cards when allies enter, which means Kazuul Warlord is triggering constantly — each new ally both counters the board and replaces itself in hand, turning the two cards into a self-sustaining growth engine.

02
Sokka, Tenacious Tactician

Sokka, Tenacious Tactician

25.9% of decks · synergy 0.25

Sokka, Tenacious Tactician rewards wide boards of warriors and allies with combat bonuses, and Kazuul Warlord accelerates that plan by making every new entry a board-wide pump — the result is a curve where your fifth-turn play immediately raises the power floor of everything already in play.

Kazuul Warlord is a Commander card in practice — the ally tribal synergy it supports simply doesn't have the critical mass to compete in Legacy or Vintage, where a five-mana 3/3 with a conditional trigger is too slow against the field. In Commander, it slots cleanly into any Boros or five-color ally build that can guarantee three or more allies hitting the board over consecutive turns, turning what would be incremental development into exponential scaling. Oathbreaker is legal but faces the same tribal-density problem as the eternal formats — you'd need a very dedicated ally shell to justify the slot.

Price Context

Current price

$1.77 cheap tier

At $1.77, Kazuul Warlord sits at the low end of the cheap tier — a negligible entry cost for the effect if you're already building allies. Tribal staples with narrow homes tend to stay flat in price, so there's no particular urgency in either direction; just buy it when you need it.
