Kaya, Bane of the Dead permanently exiles any permanent her minus ability touches — no graveyard trigger, no recursion, just gone — and her static ability makes your opponents' permanents lose hexproof and shroud while she's on the battlefield. Seven mana is a real cost, but the effect is unconditional removal stapled to a relevant passive.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|

| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Kaya, Bane of the Dead makes the most sense. The format is full of indestructible commanders, hexproof generals, and graveyard-dependent creatures that laugh at normal removal — Kaya's static shuts off hexproof and shroud across the board, and her minus handles anything that would otherwise dodge exile-based spot removal. In competitive 60-card formats like Modern and Pioneer, seven mana is disqualifying; there are cheaper, more flexible answers at every point on the curve. Legacy and Vintage have the same problem compounded by the power level of fast threats. Oathbreaker is a reasonable home if your signature spell package rewards controlling the board from a planeswalker slot.
