Kavu Predator can become an enormous threat for two mana, but only in decks that reliably force life gain onto opponents — without that setup, it's a 2/2 with trample that does nothing. Run it only when you can guarantee the triggers; otherwise it's a bulk rare doing bulk rare things.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

Kavu Predator is a Commander card first and almost exclusively. The format's prevalence of life gain — Rhystic Study triggers, Sylvan Library payments, fetchland shocks on opponents, and dedicated life gain commanders — means Kavu Predator can plausibly grow into a 10/10 or larger without any extra investment. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but effectively unplayable; those formats move too fast and don't care about a creature that needs opponents to gain life before it does anything. Modern has similar problems, and the card sees no competitive play there. Commander is the one place where the political and mechanical landscape lines up well enough to justify the slot.

Price Context
Current price
$0.15 bulk tier
At $0.15, Kavu Predator is deep bulk — the floor for a card that sees essentially no competitive demand outside niche Commander builds. Don't expect that to change; the price reflects real utility, not an overlooked gem waiting to spike.
