Kappa Cannoneer card art
Kappa Cannoneer enters with ward 4 and grows every time you cast an artifact spell — in a blue artifact shell, that's multiple +1/+1 counters per turn cycle before combat even starts. The cost is a four-mana 4/4 that does nothing the turn it enters, so Urza, Lord High Artificer and Aloy, Savior of Meridian run it because they're already casting enough artifacts to make the payoff immediate and overwhelming.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Aloy, Savior of Meridian

Aloy, Savior of Meridian

80.1% of decks · synergy 0.76

Aloy, Savior of Meridian generates a constant stream of artifact tokens, and each one triggers Kappa Cannoneer — by mid-game it's a ward-4 threat that doubles as a combat finisher before your opponents can answer it.

02
Morska, Undersea Sleuth

Morska, Undersea Sleuth

64.4% of decks · synergy 0.62

Morska, Undersea Sleuth cares about artifacts entering and leaving, which means Kappa Cannoneer isn't just a beater here — it's a counter-stacking engine that rewards the same artifact churn the rest of the deck is already doing.

04
Inspirit, Flagship Vessel

Inspirit, Flagship Vessel

62.2% of decks · synergy 0.55

Inspirit, Flagship Vessel operates in a high-artifact-density environment where Kappa Cannoneer accumulates counters at an alarming rate, making it the kind of recursive threat that demands an immediate answer opponents often can't produce.

05
Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci

53.8% of decks · synergy 0.46

Leonardo da Vinci produces artifact tokens at scale, and Kappa Cannoneer converts that production into a growing ward-protected body that closes games once it's been allowed to sit for even two or three triggers.

Commander is where Kappa Cannoneer genuinely earns its keep — artifact-heavy blue decks cast enough noncreature artifacts per game that it routinely grows to 8/8 or larger while ward 4 taxes removal hard enough that it often just survives. In Legacy and Vintage, it's technically legal but competing against faster, cheaper threats with more immediate impact, so it rarely sees play there. Modern is the one constructed format where it's plausible in a dedicated Affinity-style shell, though the four-mana cost puts it in tension with that format's speed. Kappa Cannoneer is a Commander card through and through — the longer the game, the better it gets.

Price Context

Current price

$0.44 bulk tier

At $0.44, Kappa Cannoneer is bulk by any measure, which makes it a zero-regret inclusion for every artifact commander that can trigger it. The price reflects limited constructed demand rather than any ceiling on its Commander performance, so there's no reason to hesitate at this number.
