Kami of the Tended Garden puts a 4/4 Spirit token on the battlefield at the start of your upkeep — every upkeep — as long as you cast a spell each turn, which most decks do naturally. The condition is nearly invisible in practice, making this a reliable token factory for four mana.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is the only format where Kami of the Tended Garden is worth discussing. In 100-card singleton, the condition of casting one spell per turn is trivially satisfied, and a 4/4 token every upkeep compounds quickly across a long game. In Legacy, Modern, and Vintage, four mana for a conditional token engine is far too slow — those formats end before the card generates meaningful value. Oathbreaker is legal but shares the same problem: the compressed game length makes Kami of the Tended Garden a poor investment at four mana.

Price Context
Current price
$0.11 bulk tier
At $0.11, Kami of the Tended Garden is pure bulk — easy to acquire and easy to cut without regret. Bulk enchantment creatures with narrow appeal rarely climb in price, so treat this as a low-cost experiment rather than a hold.
