Jodah's Codex card art
Jodah's Codex draws you a card every turn you cast a spell from each color — up to five cards per rotation — stapled to a five-mana artifact that enters tapped, so the payoff is real but the setup is slow. It's no Mind Over Matter, but in five-color decks that routinely cast spells across all five colors in a game, the incremental draw adds up to something meaningful.

Jodah's Codex is a Commander card through and through — every other format either ignores five-mana do-nothing artifacts or runs lean enough that the setup cost is a nonstarter. In Commander, five-color and domain strategies get the most out of it, since hitting all five color triggers in a single turn cycle is realistic when your deck is built to cast across the whole color pie. Outside Commander, it's legal in Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, and Oathbreaker but sees essentially zero play in any of them; the competition for that slot is simply too stiff.

Price Context

Current price

$0.19 bulk tier

At $0.19, Jodah's Codex is deep bulk — easy to pick up in any trade binder or as a throw-in. Bulk artifacts with narrow homes rarely climb in price, so don't expect it to appreciate, but at this cost there's no reason not to slot it into a five-color deck and see if the draw engine pulls its weight.
